Agriculture is the main activity of modern Siwi, particularly the cultivation of dates and olives.Two types of dates are produced in the oasis: fresh dates and dried dates. The three most important varieties are the local Siwi, Frehi and Azzawi. Three other particularly valued varieties are the Ghazaal (semi-firm flesh), Takdat (very soft flesh) and Amnzou, which are all cultivated in small amounts and are at risk of extinction.

Siwa produces a wide range of beautiful traditional handicrafts such as baskets made of palm fronds, dresses and silver jewellery. In cooperation with various development partners some investment projects were established to provide development for these traditional industries. You'll find everything in the shops in the center.
