For the most cutting edge in Finnish shopping try the Design District. This creative cocktail of styles is concentrated where Uudenmaankatu intersects with Fredrikinkatu, Annankatu and Yrönkatu. The Finnish institution of Stockmann provides everything you might need under one roof, from designer clothes to food and drink and everything in between. Sokos goes one or two steps further, allowing shoppers to dance the night away and even spend the night there at its onsite hotel.
Shopping
Lots of big shopping malls around the city. Two right in the mid-centrum (Kamppi and Forum). One huge in the east - Metro station Itäkeskus. One small in the western end of the metrorails (Ruoholahti).
Ok, who goes and buys furniture when your travelling right ? But, the thought is that this is not just furniture, this is a design classic, where alot of designers have copied so its good indeed to go and see the original master, right ?This shop dates from 1935, when it was established by Alvar Aalto, only one the greatest designers to come out of Finland and three of his colleagues. Inside, you'll find reproductions of Alto's distinctive wooden chairs, tables, wall units. Its a design heaven.
