Another store of Amoeba records. This one is smaller than the San Francisco store, but tends to be somewhat less picked over. A good place for used vinyl but they've got movie posters, DVDs and videos too.

A new and used bookstore on Telegraph Ave. Their used selection is especially good for all kinds of subjects. Four stories of books! Also, maybe just as important, on the 3rd floor there is a free restroom. They also have a rare book room up on the 4th floor with limited hours.
Comic Relief is a great independent / underground comic book store in Berkeley. The selection is huge and the folks are really friendly. There's even a store cat.
Rasputin Records competes with Amoeba as two of the biggest independent record stores in the Bay Area. They have other stores in the bay, most of them aren't as big and varied as this Berkeley store is.

REI is an outdoors and camping store, with a lot of things for travellers. If you need to get a new backpack, tent, hiking boots or even straps for your luggage this is a good place to go. It's not cheap, but they've got everything. They will also rent gear to you, for snow-shoeing, or technical climbing, etc.
