This is the hostal that I recommend to friends and family for a mid-range hostal in Madrid, it's really clean and if you ask for an interior room it is also quiet despite being in a noisy central area (and there is actually light in the interior rooms, although I imagine the exterior rooms have a much more interesting view of the plaza de Opera).
It's nothing fancy but the people are friendly, don't speak English but make it easy to communicate, and you can't beat the location.
A great plan to scape from the busy Madrid after a hard week. Just in 45 minutes you will get to this village where you will only find peace and calmness. Once there you can ride a horse, treking, practict windsurf in "El Atazar" or just spend a romantic and relaxing afternoom in the jacuzzi inside the room.
The owners are very friendly and like the "El Arco" has only four rooms, you will feel like to be at home.

Good hostel is cheap, clean, safe and able to make new friends...
location is near center of Madrid (for me), I didnt spend a lot of money for Metro actually, almost walking around, there is a sunday market for just near by, it could take you whole morning to shopping then.
Breakfast is enough for your morning energy! :)
The best value of this hotel is its splendid location: you are right in the top of Madrid. From room 1 you get an astonishing view of Callao square. If you rather look at the windows, pick room 10.
