Back in the day, you were lucky if you were served a drink here. That was before longtime owner Bruno Mooshei died in 2000. The old curmudgeon would often ask patrons to leave if he didn't like the way they looked or if they didn't order their drink quickly enough. These days things aren't so strict, but the bar has retained the Middle Eastern aesthetic that it had back when legendary Chronicle columnist Herb Caen frequented the joint, dubbing it the "the Holy Shrine of the Dry Martini."
