The menu here looks like the usual SF crepe/cafe fare. Don’t get me wrong. Their savory crepes are great, with a healthy portion of potatoes on the side. Salads are made-to-order, and come with the cafe’s unique toasted bread with melted cheese on top. What makes this place stand out, are their hamburgers & Happy Hour beer.
Although a vegetarian, I have plenty of carnivore pals who ALL agree. This cafe has THE best hamburger in SF. Not to mention the cheapest pints for Happy Hour (at $1.75).
Asquew offers an array of grilled skewers, BBQ, soups and salads, along with appetizers, sides and desserts in the heart of Upper Haight. The food is good, with both carnivore and vegetarian options, served with healthy portions, at a reasonable price.
What stays with me are the mashed potatoes. Don’t miss out on ‘em. They are simply heavenly!
Palestinian/Lebanese/Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food, belly dancing, flavored hookahs, floor seating with big cushions to rest yer bum on while eating. Kan Zaman is a novel restaurant. There may cheaper Middle Eastern dishes to be had in the SF, yet here you’ll find delicious food served family style with ambiance. Open late on Friday and Saturday nights, with a DJ spinning Arab discs, and belly dancing shows during dinner.
Not too far from the Opera & Symphony house, in the more upscale neighborhood of Hayes Valley is Caffé Delle Stelle, serving a menu inspired by Tuscany. Considering it’s location in the upper scale neighborhood, the prices are decent and, more importantly, the food is delicious. This place can get busy the night of a symphony or opera performance, try to make reservations ahead of time.
The Rincon Center Food Court is perfect for the indecisive group of people in the search of good food for cheap. Thai, Chinese, Mediterranean, sandwiches, salads, all can be found within the food court. At it’s center, the seating area is lit by a giant skylight, with a soothing water fountain. Surrounding the seating area are a number of food stands, all inexpensive and delicious. Not something you would simply come upon, unless looking for it.
