Eddie's Cafe

When nothing but basic, delicious diner food will do, Eddie’s is perfect. A typical diner, with counter seating or booths, a jukebox with local bands and the “oldies”, & a cornucopia of mugs, this place is a neighborhood staple.

The menu is standard: pancakes, homefries, homemade biscuits, french fries, sandwiches, etc; breakfast is served all day. Service is always friendly & quick. Portions are huge while the prices are cheap. The only drawback is the wait during the weekend brunch hours.

Pork Store

During the weekends, you’ll always find this place packed, with a small line waiting to get inside. (Get there early!) The menu is packed with the “greasy spoon” fare – eggs, french toast, ham, bacon, sausage, pork chops, chicken fried steak, sandwiches, burgers, salads and sides. Portions are big, and the prices are reasonable. Service is quick and the food is delicious.

Jonesing for Mexican food, but can’t make it to the Mission District? Check out Little Chihuahua in the Lower Haight. The food is good and fresh; the salsa is “dee-lish”. Service is quick and friendly. The only minus is that the place is small, so finding seats may be difficult. Try to get there earlier in the evening. A great alternative in the neighborhood to Nopalito (which is a couple of blocks away).

Cafe Madeleine

The cakes and French pastries at Cafe Madeleine’s are simply to die for! My favorite is their Triple Chocolate Cake “chocolate sponge cake layered with dark, milk and white chocolate mousses, topped with white chocolate shavings”....YUM!! Their grilled sandwiches are made to order, and their salads are tasty too. However, I associate Madeleine’s more with dessert than with breakfast or lunch. Definitely stop by for a cupcake or fancy French pastry.

Fly Bar

The first few times I passed this place, I thought it was another hipster hangout. When I did step inside, I found a pretty “chill” atmosphere with a friendly staff. What really won me over, was their pizza. (Try the Carmel Blue, a thin crust pizza with garlic sauce, caramelized onions, gorgonzola & mozzarella cheeses.) If you are looking for a quiet place to have some pizza & a drink, visit during Happy Hour. If you are looking for a hoppin' place on a weekend nite, it'll will do the trick too!
