This coffe shop funded in 1905 and located in the Plaza Mayor (Great Square) is the oldest one in the city and was the preferred spot to relax and chat for intellectuals and writers such as Unamuno, Carmen Martín Gaite or Gonzalo Torrente Ballester. Nowadays is far from being the coolest coffe shop in the city, but their ice-creams, made in their own factory, really deserve a bite.
Awesome tostas (toasted bread with a topping), great variaety and amazing price.
Have them with cañas or with any of the many great wines from the area.
Close to Plaza Mayor
Horrible name and worse entrance. Don't expect a better decoration inside. But this pub located between Plaza Mayor (Great Square) and Gran Vía is actually the best one to start the night if you like the good indie-rock music. Cheap beer and cocktails and good people.
From 12:30 to 2:00 a.m. it's the best timing; after that usually gets too crowded on weekends.
