The pub where the Inklings, a group of writers, the most known of them J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, used to meet until 1962. A very good pub to have a drink meanwhile watching the incredible place Oxford is. A recommended visit for all the fans of Lord of the Rings like myself.
Eating & Drinking
The 2 course light lunch is only £5! That includes soup or salad and a nice salmon. The fish is fresh, and so the specifics of the menu will vary with the catch. You can also order more fancy expensive stuff, but generally you can get a pretty good deal at this lovely restaurant with fresh fish.
I went there for a couple of pints with friends and I fell in love with the atmosphere and spirit of this pub which I haven't felt in any other pub in Oxford until now.
Staff there is great, and the multiple rooms gives you a good choice on where to sit.
I know that this place is very much known in the city since everytime I happen to talk about cool places to sit in for a drink, the Turf Tavern just pops up in the conversation.
