The old spirit of Gion is still alive today. Not only the traditional architecture, but also the entertainment has survived in this district filled with exclusive restaurants and tea houses where the geiko (term used in the Kansai dialect instead of geisha) keep on entertaining to the modern patrons as they used to do with the samurais in the past: singing and dancing traditional Japanese music or performing the tea ceremony.
Eating & Drinking
Nice restaurant for japanese "tapas".
Good price and you can try lots of different kind of food in one meal! :¨)
Pontocho is one of Kyoto's traditional nightlife districts where you might be able to spot a geisha apprentice at night
It's a narrow street running from Shijo-dori to Sanjo-dori, one block west of the Kamo River.
Try to have dinner at one of the river side restaurants, but be careful! Check the prices before go in or you could have a big surprise for dessert :)
Ryoanji Temple
off Shimei Dori Rdi, near Gold Pavillion
