Şekerpare is a kind of cookie actually, but it is made wet with lemon juice, grated lemon rind or vanilla syrup. And traditionally, the dessert is enriched with; hazelnut, almond or pistachio. To be honest Şekerpare is not among my favorites but it is very popular. Especially in tea parties it is a high possibility to encounter this evolved cookie! On second thought, tea and Şekerpare are a tasty couple! Besides, this dessert is one of the cheapest and very easy to find everywhere.

Since it can be understood from its name, this dessert has a shape of a finger. A special dough is shaped and than fried in hot oil. After that how dessert is dipped into cold syrup. It has mostly a crispy feeling in first bite but inside is soft. If the syrup is prepared properly, it can be really delicious. But, since this dessert is made of dough, it has the ability to absorb the syrup although it is fried. I have always tried home made versions though!
The Cennet restaurant in Çemberlitaş is a small, traditional Turkish restaurant. The menu there is very tasty consisting mainly of appetizers like aubergine salad, stuffed vine leaves, kebabs and of course their famous gözleme, a sort of crêpes filled with meat, potato or cheese. You are invited to eat by sitting on pillows just like the Anatolian traditional turkish meal while in the midlle of the restaurant, there is patio where they are prepairing gözleme.
Nice restaurant at Sultanahmet. It's not the greatest restaurant but it's ok and the staff is very nice.
Try some of the ottoman dishes.
About 15€ per person
A friend who traveled to Istanbul brought me back an assortment of amazing Baklava from this shop. AMAZING! The chocolate baklava was to die for!! The phyllo was thin and crisp. The baklava moist, dense, and sweet, though not too sweet. Perfection.
