Not too many bars as character-full as this place outside of a big city, or at least a hip college town. Miss Kitty (the new owner; a spunky Chicago transplant that left the city for the quaint life Galena) runs this place like she's hosting a cocktail party every night of the week. It's cozy, cheap, and whenever there's live music, it's pretty good stuff.
You don't see too many German/French restaurants anywhere in the US, and you sure as heck don't expect to see one in Western Illinois. That's Galena for you. This charming bistro definitely feels like it belongs in a bigger city somewhere (except, thankfully, for the prices). All the dishes here - Pate & cheese, Soft German Pretzel, Wiener Schnitzel, or Coq Au Vin - were under $15. There's also a pretty advanced wine list.
Naming a restaurant after a popular movie isn't probably something I'd do; for the reason I had some issues with this place; it certainly attracted too many tourists and was filled with a bit too much kitsch. But the food was solid. It's not exactly authentic Italian, but it's good. The prices I thought were a bit high for what you got (most everything was over $20). The service was so-so. If you're going to spend more than one day in Galena, you should probably give this place a chance.
