This is a fantastic pan-Asian restaurant. I've never had bad food here, and they blend great big all-natural smoothies right up front. The orange chicken with a peach-strawberry freeze is my standard order, but the beef in a bamboo pot and the kung pow chicken are also fantastic.
Eating & Drinking
Jilly’s was my first experience with French cuisine. Apparently this place is big on brunch and my friends rave about it but we opted for dinner. I had a field greens salad with poached pear served with blue cheese, walnuts, and their own vinaigrette dressing. At only $8 it was filling, fresh, and delicious. My favorite thing I had was the mashed coconut sweet potatoes (that I ate off my boyfriend’s plate, ha.) It sounds strange and sweet (it is) but it actually works.
SPACE (Society for the Preservation of Art & Culture in Evanston) is a much welcomed small venue in town that's mostly musical. As a student at North Western, it’s a bit of a hassle to travel into Chicago all the time. SPACE just opened recently and I have really good feelings about it. The shows that run through here are very eclectic and usually dabble more in experimental genres. There’s a nice seating area here to gnash down on some pizza and drinks (there’s a pizzeria in the front) too.
Went to this American bistro on a blistering cold Chicago night and went home warm and happy. We started off with a wine flight, sampling wines from their extensive list. For an appetizer we had scallops and they literally melted in your mouth (scallops are hard to get right). I’m a vegetarian so my entrée was an acorn squash with mushroom risotto inside. The only thing that didn’t go off without a hitch was the service. There weren’t many people but the server was acting as if he was swamped.
