Chashugu is a kind of mushroom that always displayed in the menu of all the Chinese restaurants. It's called Tea Tree Mushroom, only translated word by word. Well, this dish is called "Ganguo Chashugu", Ganguo is the way people say the wok, is a smaller wok which can bring onto the table. As we like the flavor when it's hot, there is a fire of alcohol under the wok. It's spicy, but you can order less chili. There are many other forms of Tea Tree Mushrooms dishes that you can try too.
Eating & Drinking
Xiqin refers to a thin type of celery, and Baihe are lily bulbs. This is undoubtedly the most popular vegetable dish in Beijing. It's very light, and as the celery has thick vegetable fibers, it can help you wipe away the fat. There are also many light dishes made with celery or lily bulbs that bring out the natural fragrance of the vegetables themselves.
Bingtanghulu is the typical historical sweet snack of Beijing. It's a stick of sugar-coated fruits like grape, strawberry, Kiwi, etc. However the most traditional or authentic fruit for Bingtanghulu is hawthorn which is my favorite flavor. You can find it in the traditional snack street like the one in Wangfujing.
Lvdagunr it's a typical traditional dessert of Old Beijing. It's from Manchu, which was the favorite dessert in the Forbidden City. It's made up of a yellow glutinous rice, yellow bean flour and red bean, some people call it "Glutinous Rice Rolls with Sweet Bean Flour", however it has a interesting meaning in Chinese which is "donkey swallows". My foreign friends like it very much, it's sweet and has the fragrance of beans, so if you go to Beijing, don't forget to try it!
Naiyouzhagao is the public lover among all the traditional desserts in Beijing, whatever old men or children, girls or boys, they all like it.
