Frontier Restaurant

Right across from the UNM campus this greasy spoon specializes in New Mexican style food that is outrageously addictive and cheap. Ponder some of the worst art on the planet while you stuff yourself on hash browns, burritos and enchiladas smothered in hot NM chile. I especially recommend getting a pack of a dozen flour tortillas while you're at it. Oh yeah, and it's open 24 hours...

El Patio

recommendation by goose

New Mexican restaurant near the University of New Mexico. This place has a long reputation of serving great food and it is the first place I eat whenever I am in town.

I recommend the stuffed bean sopaipilla with lots of red chile, it comes with a side of their super good potatoes. The chile rellenos are also great.

The Launchpad is a great venue to go see independent bands at. It's a big spacious place that's cool to hang out at even if there isn't a show going on. It's got roomy booths and a selection of beers that range from the cheapest of the cheap to smaller microbrews. You can check out the calendar on the website.

Garcia's Kitchen

recommendation by goose

Killer New Mexican food done right with no frills. You can probably get out the door having eaten more than you've had in weeks for under $10. Not the best New Mexican food but solid and for a really great price.
Chile rellenos, carne adovada, stuffed sopapillas, burritos, blue corn enchiladas (flat or rolled / with or without a fried egg on top).
Wow. I feel bad for saying it's not the best, because it's not so far from it.
